Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has three game modes as previous games in the Call of Duty series. An epic single player campaign, an amazing multiplayer experience, and the return of special ops with the addition of a brand new Survival mode.

Modern Warfare is back. The best-selling first person action series of all-time returns with the epic sequel to the multiple Game of the Year award winner Modern Warfare 2. The first gameplay of the game was shown at this year’s Electonic Entertainment Expo (E3), showcasing the missions Hunter Killer and Black Tuesday.

Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer debuted at Activision’s first Call of Duty XP convention Friday at September 2nd, 2011. After the reveal, attendees were able to experience the multiplayer firsthand.

Like previous games in the series, killstreaks will be returning in Modern Warfare 3, but in a completely new way. Modern Warfare 3 features a complete new killstreak system – instead of gaining rewards based only how many kills a player gets, the player will stack up “points,” receiving one for each kill, capture, or other objective, which will all contribute to the streak. This new setup is called “pointstreaks.”

The new revamped system features three categories or “Strike packages” which players get to pick from – the Assault package, the Support package, and the Specialist package.

In total, the game will include 28 killstreaks, all of which are listed below specific to their categories.

Assault Packages

This package is generally similar to the traditional killsreak system in previous Call of Duty games, with some familiar favorites and a few new additions; for players who like their gameplay the way it is. Note: Points reset after death.

 • 3 – UAV
 • 4 – Care Package
 • 5 – IMS, bouncing Bettys immune to disruption devices
 • 5 – Predator Missile
 • 5 – Sentry Gun
 • 6 – Precision Airstrike
 • 7 – Attack Helicopter
 • 9 – Strafe Gun, call in 5 helicopters to strafe and attack for a limited time
 • 9 – Little Bird Guard, control a mini chopper to attack and spot enemies
 • 9 – Reaper, air-controlled Predator Missile (x5)
 • 10 – Assault Drone
 • 12 – AC-130
 • 12 – Pave Low
 • 15 – Juggernaut, get an advanced armor package for a limited time
 • 17 – Osprey Gunner, be a gunner of a helicopter that drops care packages for teammates

Support Package

The Support package of killstreak rewards is designed for those who focus on helping their team accomplish objectives and win matches; filled with killstreaks that benefit your entire team. Note: Points don’t reset after death.

 • 4 – UAV
 • 5 – Counter UAV
 • 5 – Ballistic Vests, drop a crate of armored vests for teammates to pick up
 • 5 – Airdrop Trap, a care package which will explode when picked up by the enemy team
 • 8 – SAM Turret
 • 10 – Recon Drone, controllable UAV to detect enemy positions
 • 12 – Remote Turret, manually controlled Sentry Gun
 • 14 – Stealth Bomber
 • 18 – EMP
 • 18 – Juggernaut Recon
 • 18 – Escort Airdrop, an Osprey helicopter delivers and defends multiple care packages to teammates

Specialist Package

In this package, you won’t find any killstreak awards, but rather, you will get perks. With enough points, the player can gain every single perk in the game, but if you die, you’ll have to restart. Note: Points reset after death.

Like Modern Warfare 2, deathstreaks will be returning as well in Modern Warfare 3.

 • 4 Deaths – Juiced, move faster for a few seconds after spawning
 • 5 Deaths – Revenge, you will see the position of the last enemy that killed you on your mini-map
 • 4 Deaths – Final Stand, allows the player to crawl around and use their primary weapon when downed
 • 4 Deaths – Martyrdom, drop a live frag grenade upon death
 • 6 Deaths – Dead Man’s Hand, fall into last stand after dying with C4 equipped in your hand
 • 5 Deaths – Hollow Points, bullets cause more damage for one kill only
Information regarding Modern Warfare 3 Content Collections and DLC:
“The way we’re doing downloadable content this year is unlike we’ve never done before. Not only in how you can get it, but also the type of content you’re getting. We’re doing more than just maps…a variety of things that players have never seen before.” – Robert BowlingThe Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Content Season includes nine consecutive months of epic downloadable content with new multiplayer maps, Special Ops missions, game modes, and more that are available first for Call of Duty Elite Premium members or later in the form of collections for non-Premium members.

In the content season, players will get over 20 pieces of content over this nine-month period.

The content season timeline can be viewed here and the complete Modern Warfare 3 Season of Content calendar can be seen here.

CONTENT DROPS 1 & 2: The content season began on January 28th, 2012 (Xbox Premium) with the first two content drops, Piazza and Liberation (PS3 Premium: Feb 28th).

Liberation, a militarized Central Park stretches across a vast landscape, ripe for long-range sniper and LMG fire. Mounted turrets on either end lend power to anyone brave enough to expose themselves in exchange for deadly firepower. Plan out your movement and always be aware of nearby sightlines to avoid becoming fodder for the enemy (formerly known as Park). Trailer.

Piazza, this seaside Italian getaway is anything but idyllic, as tight corners and branching pathways pose a great risk at every turn. Close-range combat dominates, and the team that best utilizes flanking routes will most often come out on top. Attacks from behind, above and below are an ever-constant threat. Keep up your awareness and don’t get taken by surprise. Trailer.

CONTENT DROP 3: In the third drop, Overwatch, was released for Xbox Premium members on February 15th and March 29th for Playstation 3 Premium.

Overwatch, shots break out on a construction site atop a New York City skyscraper. Battle takes place along two levels in a near symmetrical layout, with the central bridge and side routes open to attack from multiple angles. Watch your every step, as a lack of boundaries surrounding the perimeter leaves nothing to prevent you from falling far to the ground below. Trailer.

CONTENT DROPS 4,5, & 6: On March 13th (Xbox Premium), Infinity Ward releases the next drops, containing the all-new multiplayer map Black Box and two Special Ops missions Negotiator and Black Ice (PS3 Premium: April 12th).

Black Boxbattle beside a downed Air Force One in “Black Box.” Multi-level homes overlook the neighboring streets, creating a deadly kill zone for players on the ground. With clear sight lines from house to house, however, snipers are far from safe, with counter-sniping an ever-present threat to their dominance. Those that prefer close-quarters combat can succeed in the tight confines of the crashed airplane or in hunting down enemies posted up within any of the surrounding homes. Trailer.

Black Ice, shred ice from aboard your snowmobile as you infiltrate a diamond mine in the Special Ops mission, “Black Ice.” Melt more than snow when you plant high-grade explosives to shut the mine down forever. This marks the first time Special Ops has been made downloadable online in franchise history.

Negotiator, cash in all your karma as you head to India for high-stakes hostage extraction in “Negotiator,” an all-new Special Ops mission in which you’ll breach-and-clear rooms and navigate surface streets to secure the safety of your VIPs. This marks the first time Special Ops has been made downloadable online in franchise history.

CONTENT DROPS 7 & 8: Out of the blue, the official Call of Duty Elite tweeted the reveal of Sanctuary and Foundation, the next set of drops, releasing on April 10th. Playstation 3 premium members receive the drops on May 10th.

Sanctuary, suspended in the air one thousand feet up, you’ll battle more than altitude in the towering sandstone monasteries of Central Greece. Formed over millions of years, this sanctuary’s natural rock pillars have repelled invading armies and withstood the ravages of time but now they’ll face your deployment. Test your skills—and the ancient monks’ craftsmanship—with your arsenal of SMG’s, assault rifles and shotguns. Just remember: don’t look down.

Foundation, journey into the heart of South Korea for a decommissioned concrete factory where the cement flows and bullets fly. After decades of constructing roads and buildings, the towering facility is now a perfectly-constructed combat zone for sniping and run-and-gun rules of engagement. Don’t stand in awe of the towering concrete crusher at the center of the factory unless you want to see your kill ratio meet the same fate.

CONTENT DROPS 9-12: The largest set of content drops so far brings a variety on new content: a new multiplayer map, Spec Ops missions, and new “Face-Off” maps. It is set to release to Xbox premium Elite members first on May 15th.

Oasis, though once a picturesque escape for vacationers, the sprawling Hotel Oasis is now a multiplayer paradise, with multiple lanes of combat built atop an ancient fortress.

Kill Switch, armed with an Electromagnetic Pulse, your sniper team must neutralize a Russian carrier in this Special Ops Mission where only a bird’s eye view can keep your team in command as you breach the ship from underwater.

Iron Clad, with one player helming a tank and the other escorting it on foot, you’ll clear beaches and take cover in plane wreckage as you escape Hamburg from behind enemy lines in this all-new Special Ops Mission.

Getaway, the first “Face Off” map in Modern Warfare franchise history, what once was a tropical beach getaway boasting exotic aquariums and oversized pools is now a haven for ruthless run-and-gun violence.

Lookout, carved into a combat-weary mountainside, this new “Face Off” map pits you against your opposition in a forward observation base littered in chokepoints and tight corridors.

CONTENT DROPS 13-15: On June 19th for Xbox Premium, four new DLC drops release: three Face-off maps and one Spec Ops mission. PS3 and PC dates TBA.

Arctic Recon, requiring surgical precision by air, land, and sea, this new Special Ops mission tasks you with destroying a Russian battleship by planting beacons for an air strike. Take control of a recon helicopter to reveal the beacon locations before fighting off forces on the ground to ensure the ship never leaves port.

Vortex, no storm shelter can keep you safe in “Vortex,” the all-new “Face Off” map that places you just outside the danger zone of a devastating tornado.

U-Turn, a bombed-out, gridlocked highway provides a perfect backdrop for combatants on this all-new “Face Off” map, where oil fields burn black high above six-lanes’ worth of abandoned cars, buses and paths for attack.

Intersection, a New York bridge overpass provides the backdrop for this all-new “Face Off” map in which an ultra-condensed 2-block battle zone allows players to fight on the first and second floors of surrounding apartments and bombed-out bodegas.

FREE DROPS 1 & 2: Exclusive to the new “Face-Off” mode, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games introduce Erosion and Aground – two new maps designed for the mode to “encourage strategy, skill, and teamwork like never before.” On Xbox LIVE first on May 15th!

Erosion, make your way through Mediterranean ruins and ancient aqueducts, using leftover Roman masonry for thousand-year-old cover in this new “Face Off” map.

Aground, head to Scotland’s Orkney Islands for the latest “Face Off” map, where treacherous cliff faces, networks of caves and the rusted and ruined remains of a grounded transport ship provide for constant combat.

TERMINAL: The fan-favorite Modern Warfare 2 map, Terminal, is coming to Modern Warfare 3 on all systems as a FREE map. Mark Rubin, Infinity Ward Executive Producer, has confirmed that the map will be available on July 17th for Xbox LIVE Elite premium members and July 18th for all others on Xbox for FREE. PS3 and PC dates to be announced.

CONTENT COLLECTION #1: The content for non-premium Elite members will release in “collections” containing the drops previously released to Premium members. The first one releases on March 20th, 2012, first to Xbox playersPS3: April 19th & PC: May 8thTrailer.

Redeploying with an arsenal of content unlike any in franchise history, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3′s first downloadable “Collection” arrives stockpiled with half-a-dozen forms of content, including four Multiplayer/Survival Mode Maps and two Special Ops Missions, marking the first time Call of Duty has ever made Special Ops downloadable online.

Armed with just this one content pack, players can choose between heading to a militarized Central Park in “Liberation,” destroying scenic vistas in a seaside Italian getaway in “Piazza,” raining glass on New York passersby from 70-stories-up in “Overwatch,” and battling beside a downed Air Force One in “Black Box.”

As if that breadth of multiplayer variety wasn’t enough, fans of Special Ops can hop aboard snowmobiles to infiltrate a diamond mine in “Black Ice” or head to India, where “Negotiator” will leave the fate of hostages in their hands. In a class of its own with half-a-dozen forms of content, Modern Warfare® 3′s first downloadable “Collection” offers a range of combat and co-op the likes of which has never been seen before.
